California First Year Law Student’s Exam Statistics (2007-2018 Study in Judge’s Chamber or Law Office)

Below is the Baby Bar pass/fail rates created from the California State Bar’s website. These are the available statistics from 2007-2018. As can be seen, the pass rates for the Law Office Study Program prove the FYLSX is statistically far more difficult than the General Bar Exam with a far lower number of test takers. Keep in mind that many of these statistics will include first-time and multiple-time test takers and that foreign-trained students, non-ABA, and ABA numbers are bunched together.

It would help if you also considered that sometimes, there are only a few LOSP test takers, or none, whereas there are hundreds of academically trained test takers. Last, you must understand that the California State Bar stopped tracking the Baby Bar pass and test rate, as these law reader examinees are infinitesimal and irremarkable.

Methodology:

Unlike the State Bar statistics, we are backing out the LOSP test takers from the total test takers to gather a mean number of people who have a traditional law degree, foreign or domestic, and those who read for the law. So in the below examples, the state bar would say four LOSP test takers and one passer means a 25% pass rate when compared to the 19% general bar exam pass rate, which could be several hundred examinees from academic institutions. But my goal here is to compare the mean total of academically trained test takers and nonacademic. These statistics are compiled from official data sources here. The FSLX is administered twice per year, in June and October.
